Black Out

Okay, so it wasn't quite a black out, but the other day our power did go off for a couple hours. Brian was still gone on his roadtrip from Florida so it was just the kids and I. The power went off in the entire neighborhood around 4:30 in the afternoon due to an accident of some sort. I was so amazed by my kids' reaction. While I was calmly looking around for flashlights and candles "just in case" the kids were running around excited as could be about how they were going to get to sleep together in the living room, play games by candlelight, and play hide-n-seek in the "true" darkness. Noah actually said to me that he never knew not having t.v. could be so much fun. I was even happy about the fact that I couldn't cook dinner and therefore had to serve peanut butter and jelly and chips for dinner.

About an hour into our little adventure the neighbor kids came knocking and we invited them in to wait it out with us. The kids had a blast running around in the dark and hiding from each other until about 20 minutes later when the power suddenly came back on. Every single one of those kids groaned in disappointment until they realized that all they had to do was turn all the lights back off again and pretend we still had no power.

It was such a simple and silly thing, but it amazed me how my children could take something that could have potentially been very stressful or even miserable and turn it into something totally fun and carefree. That is the true beauty of a child.

Happy Unbirthday!

Okay, so today was an interesting day. My kids have been doing totally awesome with getting ready in the mornings for school, even to the point of getting all ready even before I get out of bed. It's so amazing how cooperative they are. So today they got ready and had so much time left over before school that they decided to plan a party together. They all three worked together to come up with games to play, make special party hats, etc. It was so cute to watch them work so well together.

After the big kids went off to school, and Faith was done with her swimming lessons, her and I took a trip to the dollar store and purchased some cheap party stuff like balloons, streamers, candy, etc., to make their party really special and fun. (Oh, I forgot to mention that they planned on inviting all of their imaginary friends). LOL!

Needless to say, when I picked them up from school they were so elated that I had remembered about their plan and was totally for it. We ended up with four neighbor kids and one little friend from school that came to our "unbirthday party." The kids really had a blast, and honestly so did I. I didn't even mind the noise too much. This is definitely something we'll have to do again! Bye for now!

We're back!!!

Finally! I can't believe it has been over a month since I last posted. That's absolutely ridiculous. I am going to throw out a challenge to us all to see if we can post at least once a week. That goes for everybody!! Starting now. Daily is definitely too much, but there is no reason why we can't carve out 10 minutes once a week to update everyone on our lives.

Well, now that that's settled (and 5 of my 10 minutes is used up), I will try to very quickly update on the latest. Now that the holidays are over and the weather is so freakin yucky, my kids have been going completely stir crazy. Therefore, I have enrolled Noah and Hannah in some martial arts classes and Hannah and Faith will also be doing gymnastics. I am hoping that these activities will help all the kids with some discipline issues as well as provide them with some different ways to use up their energy other than picking on each other at home. I know, I know, all I can do is hope, right? So that's where we're at with the kiddos these days.

Additionally, we have been working on some more remodeling around the house as of late. Well actually it's more of just a never ending project around here, I guess. The pics posted here are of the downstairs bathroom. Newly primed, textured, and painted a pretty beigy color. I love it. Of all people, I know Morgan would appreciate this considering that this was her bathroom all last summer. For those of you who don't know this, the former color was a very, very bright blue. We are extremely excited to be rid of it, let me tell ya.

Well, that's all I have time for for the moment. Once again, I challenge you all to post at least once a week. Let's get reconnected people.

A Day in the Life!

Today was the first day of winter vacation and we had a very busy day. The kids and I went over to Nichole's to visit with her and the boys and help her with the "secret family cookies!" Boy what a project!! We had a lot of fun though. Noah got to play the guitar hero while the little ones helped us mommies with the baking. Once again, I must say that Nichole is a very brave woman! What a mess. At one point, Tanner pulled out a laundry basket and all three little kiddies had fun going for a ride. Later in the evening while Hannah and Daddy were at the YMCA, Noah decided to give Abby a much needed bath. (I helped a little).

Done Shopping!

I am proud to say that I am finally finished with my Christmas shopping. YEAH!! This has been a major contributing factor into why I have not posted in such a long time. It's so hard to find time to get out and about that I found myself using every spare hour or two. Now comes the "really fun" part of wrapping. UGH! I absolutely hate that part. I'm one of those who has no desire whatsoever to make the package look pretty when it's only going to be ripped open. Maybe I'll just have to order a pizza sometime in the next week and have a wrapping party. Any volunteers?
